Worlds / World 3 / Training (2), group project
FOLDWELL
A coffee table with two chairs hidden inside.
A coffee table that holds two fold-out chairs and side drawers. A team of five built it for real in a workshop. I led the design and modeled it in SolidWorks.

Supervised by Dr. Diaa Hamdy.
01Brief
Fold it. Store it. Live well.
Training (2) asked each group to design a piece of furniture and build it for real. Our idea was one object that is a coffee table, two chairs and storage. The chairs slide out from inside the table frame, so there are no extra pieces.

I led the design
I led the design side of the team and modeled the table and chairs in SolidWorks. The hard part was making the chair fold small enough to fit inside the table and still be comfortable when open. A teammate led operations and production, and the rest of us helped.
03Prototype
Built in a real workshop
We built it at full size. The front panel drops down on a gas strut, the chair frame slides out, and the hinges and drawer runners are fitted into the board. The design specifies natural ash; the prototype uses wood-look board and pine frames.

Jury day
The finished table was shown at the jury with our poster, scale models and the project book.
